Yonex adds a sleek black cosmetic to the EZONE 98!

Featuring the same specs as the standard cosmetic version, the EZONE 98 Aqua Night Black combines spin-friendly targeting with raw speed. It also packs above average feel, comfort and stability for a light player's racquet. Although it lacks the mass-based power and plow-through of its heavier counterparts, you'll appreciate the quick handling when scrambling on defense, hitting shots on the run or charging the net. As with the standard cosmetic, Yonex adds 2G NAMD SPEED to the shaft, resulting in a more powerful response with better ball feedback. Yonex has also retooled the beam construction, adding a thicker, more convex cross section in the shaft (for stability) along with a thinner frame face (for a softer response). Other technologies include Yonex’s time-tested ISOMETRIC head shape, a unique design feature that makes Yonex racquets feel more generous and forgiving than conventionally shaped equivalents. Ultimately, this racquet’s raw speed and scalpel-like targeting make it one of the most accessible player’s racquets on the market.

HusseinI am a 63 years old, 5.0 ranking, all around player. I was playing with an Ezone 98, older model, I can't play with anything but Yonex. This is an amazing racquet, the feel and touch, control, amazing at the net, good ground strokes, good power, good slice, it is just perfect and if you have any injuries it is easy on the arm, I tried all kinds of racquets could not switch to any, I recommend this racquet for 3.5 to advanced player, especially to those who play doubles and love to go to the net.

Arm friendly for 65 stiffnessI just had a brief demo and would have guessed the stiffness to be lower. My Wilson Clash Pro seemed to have slightly more pop and was easier to play with than the Yonex. You will have to work harder with the similarly weighted Yonex. Great paint job on the Ezone. I'll stick with ordering the new Yonex bag.

New racquet and trade-in.This is my second purchase of a racquet from TW in the last 3 months. I utilized the demo program as well as trading in three of my old racquets. They made the process easy and I was more than satisfied. I highly recommend TW for buying a new racquet!

My Holy GrailFor context; 53 year old, single handed backhand, all court player of high level, only play singles. Been using prestige midsizes, and narrow beamed heavy racquets all my life. Tried many modern tweeter style racquets over the years like Pure Aero, Pure Drive, Extreme, etc. and just had too much power without control. This racquet feels flexy and comfortable enough to let me produce full swings without risk of over hitting long but equally gives me a lot extra punch on my groundies. Extra pop and spin on serves and easy to come around. It has quite honestly helped my game a lot and I would highly recommend a playtest.

Swing weightLots of power. Good control especially with stiffer strings. Shines from the baseline. But very “slow” and not too good for slices and net game. There is no way the SW is below 320!

Excellent Controlled Power RacquetI absolutely love this racquet. It goes perfect with my style of play. I tried a couple racquets and this is exactly as it says, “controlled power.” Very sturdy when receiving high speed shots and serves and heavier on the head part compared to controlled racquets to add more power to your shots. Excellent racquet.

Great racquetReally like how this racquet plays, you can generate lots of spin if needed but also feels solid when hitting through the ball. Also really like it on serves, particularly slice serves out wide. The aqua night black also looks really sharp with green Solinco Hyper-G strings.

Great Racquet for DefenseI've own this racquet for almost two years and love it. I initially had problems with it in the beginning since I had no idea how the demo was strung. It felt too stiff and too powerful but eventually I found a setup that worked for me using Tour Bite (as well as Soft) 17 at 52 pounds. With all that said, compared to my Wilson Blade 98 V8 and PS 97, the Ezone is a much better racquet for defensive play. When I am pushed back and caught off balance, the Ezone does a very good job to get me back in the game with less effort than my other racquets. This is especially true with my OHBH. I love how it slices and the accuracy I get from my serves is impressive. My style is more flat hitting but I am learning to add more topspin to my game and I am starting to see better results by improving my technique. The only real problem I have is if I am up against an opponent who serves very hard balls. If you don't hit right, it can be very unstable and you will feel the stiffness. For that I am better off with my PS 97. Rather than add weight, I rather see how far I can evolve with the Ezone before I do that or demo the Ezone Tour.

Replaced RacquetMy son loves this racquet. For me, more importantly, we had an issue with the first racquet we purchased; it cracked when my son hit is against his shoe (not the court). But Tennis Warehouse was kind enough to replace it with a new one. We plan to buy a second of the same racquet for my son soon, surely from Tennis Warehouse.

Love this racquetI've been using Yonex for a number of years. Most recently two iterations of the Vcore 98. In the Ezone 98 I found a nice power boost, and solid contact feel (maybe the 65 stiffness rating). Serves have good pop and control. Backhand slice is penetrating. Strung with Tecnifibre X-One Biphase 18 at 52 pounds. Nice to get back to basic black!

EZONE 98 is perfection...for meI've used this stick for about a month and it is perfect for me. It is not over-powered, so I'm not afraid to increase swing-speed. It is even a bit forgiving when I start play tight. It's a bit more muted at the net than I'm used to, but I've easily increased my movement in a positive way that overcomes the dependency on the liveliness of my previous stick. I love this racket as it has improved my game forcing me to be better in my movement and strokes while giving me the forgiveness I appreciate from time to time.

EZONE 98 BlackLiterally, just an easy racquet to hit with. Not very string sensitive either. Using Babolat gut in the mains and either ALU Power or PolyTour Pro in the crosses works well. A 4 inch strip of lead at 12, a Fairway leather grip and some TW Tungsten putty in the trap door made a good racquet, great. Have on and off tennis elbow and this doesn't cause any arm pain.

Perfect racquet after a long searchI’m a 43-year-old, 3.5 level player. I’ve tried multiple racquets and strings, starting with Babolat: Pure Drive, Pure Strike, Drive Max. Wilson: Blade, Pro Staff. Head: Gravity, Radical, Boom MP, Pro, Speed, Team L. Most of these racquets were tested with multi-string at 55 pounds of tension or poly at 51 pounds of tension. Unfortunately, they were either overpowered or underpowered for me. Then, I tried the Yonex lineup: Percept: Amazing control but lacks power for me. Ezone 100: Great power, spin, and control. Finally, I tried the Ezone 98, which I found to be the ultimate racquet for me. It offers: Ideal overpower. Amazing control. Great spin potential. I strung it with Yonex Poly Tour Pro 16L and another with Poly Tour Rev 16L. This combination is perfect, and I love this setup. After a long racquet hunt, I’ve decided to stick with this.

Demanding, dense, rewardingI won't write a long review--others have done that well. I merely want to point out that this is a VERY dense stringbed. It is tighter in the center of the racquet than many 18x20s. As a result, when combined with the "goldilocks" moderate stiffness of 64-65 RA, you get control similar to an 18x20, while still getting the power of a 16x19. This control+power feature is the Ezone's "special sauce" that makes it unique. Of course, you sacrifice some things, namely spin generation and ease of use. You need to be an advanced player (at least 4.0, and preferably 4.5 or higher) to hit the ball cleanly enough, and generate your own spin enough, to get the most out of this racquet. If you have high racquet head swing speed and well-developed modern strokes, it's a gem. If you don't, it will punish you, and you should look at the Ezone 100 or VCore 100 instead. (String rec: Yonex Poly Tour Pro, Solinco Outlast, or Solinco Hyper-G, at 52 lbs)

Most versatile racquet for 3.5 and aboveThis racquet allows the player to play the way they want. Power when you need it, control, spin, feel, comfort, and more. Extremely customizable and versatile—responsive to string setup changes. If an intermediate high schooler didn’t know which racquet to buy and they can’t test them out, I would just give them this. Some complain about Yonex’s muted feel, but it’s something you get used too and eventually grow to love. There is a reason why so many pros are switching to Yonex, especially this racquet.

Does it allI’ve demoed this racquet twice and I have fallen in love with it. The racquet does it all, great control, topspin, and all the power you need when you need it. It is six points headlight which makes it very maneuverable, but it is also extremely stable at the net. I’m not sure how they did this all in one racquet but it is one of the best best racquets I’ve ever played with. I will be buying this racquet.

Detailed background for similar playersComing back to tennis, I'm 32 now and rally with 4.5-5.0 players ALMOST evenly (surprised). Semi-western grip, heavy topspin needed at 4000 feet altitude and not too much volleying up here. I own the 2020 Ezone 100 and 2021 VCore 100. With no customization the 98 is much softer, more accurate, and the swing speed fits me much better than the Ezone 100. But if you miss the sweet spot towards 3 and 9 position, the ball drops dead and you can feel the shock pretty harshly (could be due to high altitude ball ProPenns I use that are bigger and heavier feel). I actually get more spin with the 98's faster swing, but you definitely have a smaller window of error than the 100. My focus above all else practicing is hitting the sweet spot square in the middle about average 83/100 of the time. Yes, I keep track. Even then, reacting to volleys was difficult. Missing the zone by an inch or two completely changed the trajectory for me and was punishing to the arm. Maybe a better volleyer would have better results. I have a 2 handed flat backhand that has more speed than forehand, has almost zero rotation. The backhand side DEFINITELY needs weight as swing speed alone did not produce an offense, and I don't customize my other sticks. I have strung with Polytour Spin at 48 pounds and Polytour Pro at 52 pounds. I usually string full poly at 58-60 on my 100's as I have a very fast full swing. Others that are the same will want to get a tackier grip ready, as the stock Yonex one got torn up after three sessions and provides no grip for someone with fast swings.

The Best EZONE for 2024!!I used to play with the EZONE DR 98 back in the day. This new EZONE is like no other. I can get more power and excellent feel at the net and the baseline as well. The Goldilocks tennis racquetI've been trying a number of racquets lately, and recently took several out and hit with them all. I kept going back to my Ezone 100+, except it ended up in the closet because it was too much power. If you strike the ball perfectly the Ezone 100 is a great racquet. But if not, it's going long. So I decided to get the Ezone 98, which it's not just two inches squared smaller than the 100, but also a thinner beam. Way easier to swing. Either I got a lot better overnight at striking center, or this thing has a huge sweet spot. And I can hit out without fear of the ball going long. This is the racquet I've been looking for, the Goldilocks balance between power and control. 4.0 player with big swings.

A great racquet for allSo I’m a 2.0-2.5 player and was looking for more precision on my shots. Most people who are more advanced would say you don’t have the skills to jump to a 98 but I wanted to give it a try. Demoed this and fell in love with it. Power but with more precision, its power is focused and it feels great on the arm. I recommend demoing this as I also purchased the strings they had on it.

Ezone deliversThis racquet is something else. I have played with a number of other brands, but never had a Yonex, and this one seemed up my alley. While I didn't demo it beforehand, I've played a few matches since getting it and am beginning to experience what it can do. Which is to say, quite a bit! With ample power, precision, and feel, this racquet could be an extension of your arm. Several of the reviews mention how fast it is and this can't be emphasized more. Swinging across the body is effortless as well as swinging through serves. I've only had this stick a couple months but I'll probably end up getting at least one more. While it could stand to be a shade heavier (the tour iteration solves that question), this is easily fixed with lead tape. Overall one of the finest racquets I've had the chance to wield.

What happened to Yonex QC?Strung a new Ezone 98 today and unstrung weight was 306 but unstrung SW was 279 and strung SW was 305 - way too low. Will have to spend some time with a roll of lead tape which is surprising for a Yonex.

Easy power, takes some getting used toI'm a 5.5 player and I don't change racquets too often. My last frame was the DR98. I cracked two of them and the grommets were hard to find for the other two so I demo'd this racquet. I'm approaching age 50 and I appreciate the increased power. It's not as much feel and control as I'm used to but it does have good control and I like the trade off. I will say that I found myself missing lines and hitting the ball out a few inches a lot and it just took time with the new racket. It's been about 6 months now and I absolutely love this frame, it's the best I've ever had. For reference I'm using the yellow 16L poly tour pro strung a little on the tighter side….50 I think. That string pairs very well, nice spin, control and the right amount of power.

GreatI'm an intermediate rec player and I didn't find it hard to use. It's fast through the air, yet pretty stable; good power and control. I've tried the 100 for a couple of months and I prefer this one, because of the swing speed; better for one handed backhand. Feels stiffer than my Speed Pro (2022), but not harsh on the arm.

Good I'm a 14 year old who is an intermediate player. I bought this racquet as an upgrade and I would like to say that it is very nice! I love the design and play, but it takes a long time to get used to. I bought this racquet about 2-3 weeks ago and I'm still not 100% comfortable with the Yonex EZONE 98 2022. The first week with this racquet was rough, I would find myself hitting the ball at places I didn't want. I strung it with polyester at 50 lbs. I will say that it is really starting to grow on me and It feels SUPER amazing whenever I hit it at the “sweet spot.” Serves with this racquet are pretty good as well, very fast. Overall I would rate this racquet an actual 5 because I'm starting to become friends with it. It's helped me a lot.

Yonex EZone - Great Control with a bit of popThis racquet provides everything I was looking for and more. All around very pleased with the racquet.

WOWI made the switch from the 2018 SV VCORE for years to this one. I loved the other one and it was hard to give up the explosive power. I would give this a 5 but... When I first started using this YONEX, it was hard to connect with it. I wasn't sure if it was because of the strings and tension I used and because it was a heavier racquet with a smaller frame. I'm used to hitting with 100s and the transition wasn't smooth. I thought I wasn't strong enough to use this yet. I can now say the swing is super easy. I don't have to put much effort in my swings. My problem is that I am used to generating my own power, so when I made this transition and did the same, it clashed. My volleys are more accurate. It's not as explosive as my previous racquet, but it comes with easy power already. Serves are beautiful as well. The slices I get off this racquet stays low and consistent too. It has lots of control. Overall, I am really starting to like this racquet!

Yonex 2022 Ezone 98I like it a lot. It's very light and quick. It's so light that most 3.5 and up player will ad weight. It takes time and some strategic weighting to get it good, but when you do it's very good.

Really Solid Tennis RacquetI would say a very solid stick. Weight is a little light for 11.3/11.4 frame or so it feels that way, but I also have a pair of Vcore Pro 12.3oz frames that get heavy by the 2nd set. Maybe the Ezone Tour 2022 would be the perfect frame for me, but it's not out yet. Thanks Tennis Warehouse!

Yonex EZONE 98 2022Switching from the Babolat Pure Drive 2021. The new EZONE is perfect for me (4.5 player). It's more maneuverable than the Babolat due to the fact that it's head light. And because it's head light, it allows me to accelerate through the strike zone very comfortably and when necessary without sacrificing power. That being said, I get very good pop with the EZONE. I did demo this racquet for about 3 months before pulling the trigger on purchasing. I chose this over the new Wilson Blade, which I also found to be very clean through the strike zone, but in the end, I found the EZONE to be better weight-balanced for my game.

This is the easy one EZ ONE!I am a serial racquet switcher and 4.5 baseliner with a one handed backhand. I have never been a fan of this line but my 44 year old body was looking for a bit more help than it was getting from Vcore Pros and Prince Phantom 93s and 97s (mostly for arm problems) I had been playing with previously. Maybe it's partly the weight in stock form, which feels ridiculously maneuverable, but I just keep nailing the sweet spot -- and how sweet it is! Full poly doesn't hurt my arm (at 48 lbs and softer ones like Poly Tour Pro and Hyper G Soft). This will be in my bag for a while and my search will go on hold for a long time I think! Bravo Yonex!

Keeper for meI had the DR98 and since then only tried 5th generation (green one at least) but found that too stiff and powerful, and still have a Ezone Tour 98 but thats also a bit heavy for long periods. I tried this 7th generation (with Poly Tour Pro Blue 16 at 47lbs), and as many reviews have said its more control oriented and for sure not a power racquet, which fits my game. Added 3-4 grams on the hoop and it is super stable, very comfortable and forgiving, and feel is not too muted, nice combination of feel and comfort for me. Really need to take a good big swing though. Would suggest to string low for a full poly setup. Also really like the point job...a keeper for me as one of my 3 racquets in my bag.

Sleeper players racket ready to customizeThis frame is incredible. Previously played with a Vcore Pro 330g and made it to the USTA 5.0 tournament. Wanted to customize racquets during the pandemic so tried all the latest Yonex sticks. My old VCORE Pro was too heavy stock to allow much room to tweak after. Vcore and Vcore Pro are both great sticks but I'd describe it like this: EZONE is as good or better in every aspect and gives me things that those don't. This was weird to me because I wasn't a fan of the prior gen EZONE 98. I can't vouch for this frame in its stock form and spec, but weighed up to 12oz strung this thing is ridiculous. At its best I get more controllable power than I did with other sticks. At its worst it's at least twice as forgiving as the other sticks I've played with.
