Overview

Pre-strung with a synthetic gut for added convenience and value!

The Head Graphene XT Speed S replaces the Graphene Speed S. Like it's predecessor, this update offers the benefits of the standard midplus version but in a slightly faster and more maneuverable package. The result is a racquet that should allow a wide range of intermediates to create effective pace and spin. With the addition of a stronger and lighter form of graphene in the shaft (called Graphene XT), Head is able to reposition even more weight to the grip and tip. The result is a racquet that offers smoother acceleration and easier access to power. With its near even balance, the Speed S has sufficient weight in the head to keep the racquet stable and comfortable against all but the heaviest levels of pace. From the baseline this racquet feels mobile and precise, with plenty of pop available to those who like to turn up the heat. At net the Speed S is fast enough for rapid exchanges but also quite stable for its weight class. Finally, aggressive serves should like how easily this stick whips through contact, a fact that should allow aggressive servers to dial up the pace and spin. With its fast feel, crisp response and controllable power, this version of the Speed S is a very solid option for intermediates who want solid performance from all areas of the court.

Good racketI only been playing for four months so take that into account when reading this review. Lucky for me the product arrived in just one day and it was in perfect state! If you look for an affordable beginner control and power racquet this one is great. I personally been struggling finding the sweet spot due to the smaller racquet head compared to my previous racquet. One thing I didn’t like about this racquet is the grip is too cushiony and I can’t feel the bevels right but that’s an easy fix. In general it’s a well built racquet and great if you’re into a control and power racquet with a head light balance.

I'd buy againI appreciate that it arrived strung. My son is enjoying the increased power and control it provides.

Previous Feedback

Comments: I liked the previous Graphene model enough that I got an XT racquet as well. According to the manufacturer, the unstrung specs are exactly the same as the Graphene model. The paint is different obviously, but playability is similar enough to the older Graphene that I can use them interchangeably. I added lead tape at 3, 9, and 12, which gives it just a wee bit more stability and plow. It's really quite the weapon now, quick and has pop. Strung with Rip Control and it's surprisingly soft, easy on the arm, and all-around playable. Strung with SPE, it has great feel and control, and can really generate spin. I've tried all the speeds but the S might be my favorite.

Comments: I'm 3.0-3.5 player and was using a Prince Hornet Mid Plus earlier but decided to try out these new HEAD Graphene XT racquets at a promotional event at my tennis club and was really amazed at the versatility of the Speed S racquets from both the baseline (medium-fast swing) and at the net for finishing off volleys. I also found a great deal of pop on my serves and even good accuracy so I was very pleased with its overall play. This is definitely a great racquet for intermediate players who are looking to advance their game to the next level, you must demo one before buying though.
