Overview
Luxilon introduces a softer version of 4G. Like the original version, 4G Soft offers remarkable tension maintenance, scoring well above average in our Tennis Warehouse University String Lab. Although it is softer than the original 4G, this string is still firm and best suited to intermediate and advanced players who make their own power. The exceptional control on full swings lends itself to fast swing speeds and very easy access to spin. This is a great option for big hitters who want control, spin and durability along with increased tension maintenance.

Luxilon has done it againGreat feel, spin, and touch. Tension maintenance is superb.

Superb Feel and ComfortI am a 3.5 rated senior male who has been playing for a long time. After trying a variety of strings, I settled on this one for it is easy on my shoulders and elbows without sacrificing power.
Good poly4G has better tension maintenance, in my opinion, than any other string in the Luxilon lineup. I chose the 1.25 to use in the mains for a hybrid set and it provided good feel and control. Strung at 50 lbs in the mains and 55 lbs in the crosses.
Love 4GThe crisp, powerful response of 4G along with excellent spin capability and solid tension maintenance (outstanding for a poly) is addictive. The downside is cost and letting the good tension maintenance lull you into continuing to play it after the elasticity has gone. The 330-ft half reel is a way to lower price a bit instead of individual packs without committing to a full reel.
I started playing 4G many years ago after moving to poly, loving the spin, action, and ability to hit out while keeping the ball from sailing long. Since most polys lose tension very quickly, this makes it more difficult for a recreational user to get the most from it and avoid playing strings that have dropped off.
4G addresses some of this with very good tension maintenance as well as top of the chart stiffness resulting in low dwell times. I'm a big guy (6'4") with a powerful serve and long, heavy strokes. Lower stiffness strings make for harder to control shots. I'd find myself having to back off to retain accuracy, but losing spin, action and pace in the process. I'd up the tension to the top of the racquet's recommendation (or even a bit above) trying to get the response I want. But this leads to multifilaments just breaking all the time or a very quick, large drop in tension for most polys, putting me back where I started. 4G mostly solves this.
Downsides mainly are the costs. I restring 4G every two to three weeks and at $20 a pack, it's not cheap. I do my own stringing now to cut the cost and to experiment, but it's still not cheap. I restring at this interval not because the tension drops too much, but because the poly simply loses its resilience and snap back. It's the nature of the material, even a very well engineered one. And this leads to the potential for killing your arm or wrist if you continue to play it after it has died. The snap back fades if you start compensating by taking bigger cuts to try to get the shape you're after. So, even though it remains playable longer than other polys I've tried, you still have to cut it out after ten to fifteen hours of play, in my experience.
I keep coming home to 4GHave been using 4G for years. Love the tension maintenance. Doesn’t die like Alu power. Consistent response and muted feel. Not the most powerful, nor a spin machine, but gets the job done.
Every once in a while I stray from her dancing with other polys. Hoping to get the firm consistency and hoping for more. But nothing loves you as much as 4G.
Long lasting, less stiff 4GI need a long lasting poly that is reasonably stiff and holds tension for 3-4 weeks (playing 3-4 times a week). I played straight 4G for years until running into arm issues (not unexpected). After healing, I dialed it back to a soft poly, Isospeed Cream. Love Cream, but I'm looking for even better tension maintenance.
4G soft is quite similar to Isospeed Cream in play, and it may just nip it in durability. Much softer than straight 4G, better power, a bit reduced control -- all what you'd expect from a less stiff string. I could play either, and the jury is out as to which I'll continue with. Cost is the main driver for that. Isospeed Cream costs about half that of 4G Soft, but with the cost of labor for stringing it, if 4G Soft lasts a week or two longer it may be worth it.
Great polyHit with 4G in crosses, Natural Gut in mains. Long playability overall; keep coming back to it after trying other polys for this reason as I am not a string breaker.
great productI love these strings!
Best poly I've triedA full cut control string. As a full poly bed, I find it soft and forgiving as compared to Volkyl Cyclone. Spin potential is there with proper swing mechanics. I string my Yonex Ezone 98 (newest version) at 48 lbs. Tension maintenance and durability seem to be in line with most polyester strings. I find it to be a very comfortable poly and love sound of the ball on the strings at contact. Great feedback on contact when your mechanics breakdown. I prefer the Soft version over regular 4G. I'm a 4.0 full swing topspin player.

Comments: Luxilon 4G Soft is a more muted and consistent version of the original 4G. Very nice string!
From:Eric, 3/30/21
Comments: As the TW reviewers mentioned, 4G Soft is not soft. In my hands, it is firmer than the regular 4G at 48 pounds, but gives a nice firm response when the ball is struck hard. It seems softer on drop shots and volleys. The best attributes of the string are the control and predictable response. The string provides plenty of power by allowing you to deliver the fullest swing without fear of the ball sailing. The spin is less than other spin-friendly strings such as Confidential, Hyper-G, RPM Blast, etcetera, but is there if you have good technique. In short, this is a great string for the advanced player with good technique who can provide their own power and wants to be able to hit out at full throttle. I am a 4.5+ level player.

Comments: Unbelievable control and pocketing!

Comments: Luxilon 4G Soft is one of the best string available, using it in customized version of Yonex DR 98 Plus at 51 pounds, my son is also using this string in Babolat Pure Strike Tour 3rd Generation at 51 pounds. Great spin potential, great tension maintenance with excellent durability. I can't say it's a low powered string at all, the power level is well above average. Great control string if used in combination with the right racquet and not strung at very high tensions. I think this string will play best at tensions between 51-54 pounds depending on frame stiffness and string pattern. Highly recommended string.

Comments: Thanks to a suggestion from a TW playtester who uses the same frame as I do, this 4G Soft 1.25 is now my go-to poly. I strung this my RF 97 at 58 pounds in a full bed. The string lives up to its name because the comfort and control is noticeable in every shot, and I feel I can produce my own power as the description indicates. I highly recommend this string.
From:Ray, 4/29/19
Comments: Great power return and spin production. It's absolutely softer than Luxilon 4g which adds more comfort to my arm since I string at high tensions. This is by far the longest lasting poly I've used with the least amount of tension loss. Great string for power return and control. I'm a 4.5 level player and hit with heavy topspin.
From:Phillip, 6/4/17
Comments: Great as a main string in a hybrid with natural gut. Never tried it as a full bed due to low power but with gut in the crosses, this setup really sings. Strung on a Dunlop 300G 105 18x20 with a 320 swingweight.

Comments: Wow! This is the best string I've put in my Yonex DR98. Granted my racquet has a 62 flex rating but I found this string to be soft as the name implies. In comparison to RPM Blast I find this string to be much more muted and dead and low powered. Blast is lively and crisp. I strung it up at 51 lbs and I honestly did not feel any jarring whatsoever like I did from RPM Blast. And I've had tennis elbow and bicep tendonitis in the past. So I know what stiff crisp lively strings like Blast can do to your tendons. Spin is phenomal, maybe not as heavy spin as Blast, but exceptional still. Control is off the charts good. I take big cuts at the ball and it does not sail. Great kick on serves and firm enough to block back heavy serves. I've played "soft" poly like Gosen Sidewinder and Tourna BHB7. Both of those are much more elastic and much more powerful. But those strings do not last long. Playability is terrible. 4G Soft is very consistent and controlled. I steered away from Luxilon in the past due to higher price, but the tension maintenance and durability and feel are worth as these strings have lasted me twice as long as any of the other strings mentioned. Buy this string if you take healthy cuts at the ball and want control, feel, and durability. If you're looking for power look elsewhere. I'm a 4.0 all around player. This is by far my favorite string!

Comments: This string improved my game and control. Thanks to more spin, I have been much better at attacking with my backhand. Before I switched to this string I used to play with RPM Blast 17. I like RPM a lot, my biggest concern was the playability duration, it goes dead in 2-3 hours. This string suits my style of game much better and gave me better control and better spin. I generate my own power so no concern there. Strung on a Wilson Pro Staff 95, 52 lbs mains, 48 lbs crosses. I'm 4.0 player.
From:Peter, 5/15
Comments: Excellent spin, tension maintenance, comfort, and control in full bed at 52 lbs in Pro Staff 97.
From:Rick, 4/15
Comments: This string is excellent. It maintains tension extremely well. Try a hybrid of Natural Gut and 4G Soft in the crosses, and it is the best string combination.
From:Diego, 4/15
Comments: I enjoyed demoing a racquet that had Luxilon 4G, but I wasn't sure which version of the string was used. When I bought a new racquet on Tennis Warehouse, I went out on a limb and bought Luxilon 4G Soft. This is by far the worst string I've ever used. Absolutely no feel on volleys whatsoever and you have to hit the be-Jesus out of your serve to get it over. I'm a 4.5 player who usually plays with a Synthetic Gut/Big Banger hybrid. I'm going back to it.
From:Joshua, 3/15
Comments: Love this string! Previously used regular 4G before but I switched to this string when it came out. Feels softer than original 4G and has slightly more power at the same tension. Easier on the arm and wrist than the regular version. Also feels like the playability is longer and I do not have to cut it out as frequently. Highly recommend giving it a try if you like the original version but want slightly more pop on your stokes. I am a 5.0 player.
From:Scott, 2/15
Comments: For me, this was a horrible string and it didn't have the control it claims to have. The spin seemed about average. I feel like RPM Blast is better in all categories. I'm a 4.0 player.
