Overview

Introducing Prince Lightning Pro! This premium synthetic gut builds on the success of Lightning XX by adding a slightly more responsive central core. It also has a unique outer wrap that includes multifilament bundles for extra comfort. Like previous generations of Lightning, this string has Powerfoil Technology, which consists of thin PET (polyester) ribbons. According to our Tennis Warehouse University lab data, this is one of the softest synthetic gut strings at Tennis Warehouse, making it an obvious choice for any player who wants easy access to power coupled with arm-friendly comfort.

  • Gauge: 16/1.30mm
  • Length: 40ft/12.2m
  • Composition: Co-extruded multi-section core with multifilament wrap and PET ribbons.

Another Lightning Pro Lover! Here's an example of another converted Prince Lightning Pro lover posted on my AM Stringing YouTube channel. Check out the video here - https://youtu.be/cc8ZL3HEu0M?si=d9fMTkQpnF7dnb9I "I've been playtesting Lightning Pro 16 vs. Gosen AK Pro CX 16 strung up, each as a full bed, in a pair of matched Radical MPs, a crisp frame that begs a soft stringbed. After 8 hours w/ each setup, PLP has blown me away. The snapback that first distinguished it remains, the string has yet to notch, and the mains barely wander a millimeter. Sure, AK Pro has a premium feel but, like every other SG I've ever tried (OGSM, POSG, Sweet 16, Volkl Classic, etc.), the creaking starts a couple hours in. PLP, tho, still slides silent after 8 hrs of walloping. Only once have I experienced the like, with RPM Soft; but the cost was $21 and mushy stringbed of traveling strings. Point is, PLP is a one of a kind syn gut that answers all my bugaboos about SGs. And thanks, Albert, for such an accurate review of these strings."

One SG to rule them all!Prince Lightning Pro 16 (at 33 DT) is the syn gut my crispy Radical MPs have been itching for. 143 lbs./in. stiff, it’s the softest SG I’ve ever played. Sure, there’s still shank shock, but regular off center hits are no longer “Radical raw.” While uber plush, the feel’s not muted. Instead, I’m getting the kind of pocketing one only hears about. And spin? Serves curve like bananas. After 5 hours of play, there’s no sign of notching and certainly not the creaking every other SG suffers a couple of hours in; it must be the ultra-slick coating, which so far remains stubbornly slick. Remarkable. TWU has its tension loss at only 14%, which bodes a boardy bed. But, no, PLP feels remarkably elastic. I swear I can feel the strings stretch and snap back like a co-poly. While this is a power string, unlike the many multis in this low stiffness range, trajectories aren’t launchy unless I want them to be. Flat swings yield flat shots. Even my 2HBH is a laser when I put my hips into it, and slices are knives. There’s superior weapon potential in this syn gut. I’ve tried the best– AK Pro CX, OGSM, Sweet 16, Volkl Classic, Kirschbaum– and they’re all fine in their way. But this one rules them all.

GREAT stringAbsolutely LOVE this string! May it NEVER be discontinued. The snap back is impressive for a multifilament even when strung in a full bed. Looking forward to playing with it on the Senior ITF Tour in my Head Boom MP. Love it in a full bed, but I’ll likely be going hybrid with Lightning Pro in the mains at 55lbs and HEAD Lynx Touch in the crosses at 52lbs.

Very good!At 44 pound tension it provides easy access to power coupled with arm-friendly comfort. Allows me to hang-in there hitting with 5.5 and 6.0 players.

Previous Feedback

Comments: I have a hybrid set up with Prince Lighting Pro 16 in mains and MSV Focus Hex in crosses strung at 57 pounds in my Wilson Blade CV 18x20. Good durability, easy on the arm, controllable power, spin and touch. This is a great value in a string.

Comments: I like the Lightning Pro string as a cross in a hybrid set up with Volkl Cyclone in the mains on my 16x19 CV Blade. Cyclone offers spin and control while the Lightning provide some much needed feel and liveliness for my dampened frame. It's a great combination for spin, control, and a very little kick of power. I can't speak to the comments about the string slipping while stringing since I don't yet string my own racquets, but when the Lightning is strung at a lower tension, my strings slide and snap back really well in my hybrid setup to provide that pop and spin. I would recommend it as a fairly cheap and a tad more powerful alternative to synthetic gut in a hybrid setup, so long as the tension is low. My setup is at 48 pounds Cyclone on the mains and 50-51 pounds Prince Lightning Pro on the crosses.

Comments: Update to my previous review: Some of these strings are weird for me as well. They keep on snapping 30 minutes to few hours of play. I have never played with this much fragile string before. Definitely not worth the money.

Comments: I was looking forward to trying Prince Lightning Pro 16 String based on the TW review and years of use of Prince Syn Gut as a hybrid cross. I decided to try a full string bed before using as a cross, but amazingly I could not get my drop weight stringer or grip pliers to hold the string at 55 lbs. It's a really slippery string and neither the tensioner nor pliers could hold on - slipped slowly right through. It feels oily but doesn't leave an oil residue on your hands. I just strung my usual hybrid of NRG main and Prince Syn Gut cross - with no problems at all. I've done maybe 200 string jobs and this was the weirdest of all.

Comments: I'm a 4.0 player and this string, in my opinion, is not bad for the price. Really soft and cost effective option for multifilament. Really easy to string the racket as opposed to other multifilament strings. Its got a great spin and power due to trampoline effect. Great multifilament alternative.
