My New FavoriteI am an older, very hard hitter, and have been noticing elbow soreness. Along with going to impact absorbing, foam filled racquets, I'm concentrating on two types of strings and getting rid of my polyesters--gut main/multi cross and full multi to use when it is wet out. I bought the Klip to try and am truly impressed. I'll echo everything Joe said about it -- easy to string, quick to settle in on the racquet, no flaking of the black. It looks almost evil with a black multi cross (right now using Head Velocity), and stays that way, unlike the other brand that is kind of dark charcoal gray. I get noticeably more power than with my Tecnifibre multi stringing, both at about 55/50 on a 16x20 Diadem Elevate. At $30 a shot, I have no intention of moving back to the other guys.

Comments: I love gut string on the mains, the touch, feel, power, control, spin; when paired with a good polyester cross, tension maintenance, and longevity. I use VS Gut, primarily VS Touch 16 gauge black on the mains, and Head Hawk Rough 17 gauge crosses. I rate at 4.0 level, but play mostly 4.5. I'm a USPTA Certified P1 Pro. My weapon of choice is the RF97. I string my mains at 58.5 pounds with 15% pre-stretch, and my crosses at 55.5 or 56 pounds with 5% pre-stretch. I've been a professional stringer for many years. This review is one of the several VS Gut alternatives I've tried, this one most recently. I won't go in to all the alternatives, but in this case, let's tee up Klip Legend Tour Black 16 gauge. After reading all the commentary and feedback, I decided I still want to try it. First off, the string is not as relaxed as VS Gut upon snipping the plastic retainer. VS is a softer feeling string. The Klip has a very definite coating on it, making it truly obsidian black, compared to VS Touch Black, has a bit of a faded black look, somewhat translucent. The comments about the black flaking off did not happen to me at all. It strung up beautifully, no issues, never a kink, pinch, or crush. Not a flake of the coating was present on my Tourna 600ES stringer, which is entirely white and I keep it spotless. I always note when I make the first full tension pull, I use yasuki starting method, it gives elasticity stretch almost exactly like VS Gut. It doesn't impression as easily as VS, seems the coating may be responsible for that. Crosses were simple to weave, and had no issues whatsoever. When pinging it against my hand it had a bit of a more muted sound, DT was the same result as my VS Gut strung racquet post stringing. Hitting with it was equally enjoyable. First hits with my VS strung sticks are usually a little harsh for the first 10 to 15 minutes, then it settles in and pockets wonderfully. On the other hand the Klip seemed to pocket well a little sooner. Can't explain why. Spin, touch, power and control all were excellent, and I'm pleased so far. I will update on tension maintenance and such when I've hit more with it. No flaking or discoloring has resulted yet at all.

Comments: Agree with all of the comments about the black paint coming off too easily. I put this in the crosses only and by the time I was finished stringing, about 1/3 of the crosses had no paint and my work area and hands were covered with black flakes. I expect the sweetspot to be totally natural color within 5 minutes of hitting. I've sent a comment about it to Klip but haven't heard anything back from them yet.

Comments: Stringing this for a friend. First time stringing the black and the paint flaked off like crazy. By the time I was finished stringing the crosses (only), there was more paint on the table of my stringing machine than on the string itself. Would not recommend the black. I have no problem with the natural color.

Comments: I used this string about a year and a half ago and really liked it. Held it's tension, wore well without fraying, and played well. For some reason it became almost impossible to find the Tour version. When it became available at TW at the beginning of the year I immediately ordered 4 sets. I am just beginning to string my rackets for the spring and summer seasons. I used the Tour and while stringing my racket about three quarters of the black coating came off the string. What a mess on my stringing machine and the racket string bed looked awful. I won't buy KLIP string of any kind again. Any company that let's a poor product like this go to market can't be trusted with anything they make. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is certainly true in this case. Stick with Babolat.

Comments: Love KLIP gut, but this version isn't my favorite. The black coating rubs off too easily even while stringing, and you'll end up with as much on your hands & stringer frame as remains on strings. Might as well get uncoated. This in in contrast to their Armour version (which doesn't seem to be carried at TW), which has great coating that adds to durability.

Comments: This is a great string. I use it as the crosses in a hybrid setup with Volkl Cyclone 17 mains in my Volkl C-10 Pro racquets. I have them strung at 56 lbs mains, and 59 lbs crosses. This is a fantastic combination. It is arm friendly, and powerful with great amount of control. You can't beat this combination. I just bought 4 more sets of this string to make sure I have plenty, as TW runs out of it regularly.

Comments: This is my string of choice when hybrid stringing. KLIP Legend 17g in the mains and Luxilon ALU Big Banger 16g for the crosses. The LUX provides the power and the KLIP Legend provides the control and is easy on your arm. It's a great combo. I can't tell you how many racquets I've strung for people who are satisfied converts to the hybrid setup. Most people spend months picking out a racquet and minutes picking strings. This combo gets it right.

Comments: A year ago I put a set of this in a Pure Drive, which I did not play with very much. The strings have 40 hours of singles play, or more. The tension loss has been minimal (I measure it on a Beers ERT device). It only lost 4 DT units after a year under tension and 40 hours of play. The string is hardly worn (I don't burn string). I have played with this string in the damp air of San Francisco fog. Despite being a year old, having 40 hours of hitting time, and having been played with in damp air, the string still has a soft hit, and delivers good power.

Comments: I have this string in a Prince Hornet OS and it produces great spin, power, and feel- just as you'd expect from gut. My second Prince is strung with Tecnifibre X-One Biphase, a nice synthetic, but it doesn't compare with this. I found this string to be wire-like out of the package, but that made it the easiest string job ever for a gut! Once I started hitting with it I was relieved that it played as well as it did. Also worth noting is that the feel improved somewhat with hitting, so there is a break- in period. I'm sticking with this string for a while!
From: John, USA, 1/12

Comments: This plays more like a polyester string than natural gut the coating is so thick and makes the string like wire. A good polyester string would be better than this "gut." It wears better than most natural gut strings but again so does a polyester string. I bought three sets of this and now I wonder what I will do with the other three sets.

Comments: I found this string to be softer and easier to string than the natural colored Klip Legend Natural Gut.
